$50.00

Published on the occasion of ‘Recent works of Gao Xingjian’, organised by iPRECIATION.

Published, designed and edited by iPRECIATION.

Description

To commemorate the launch of Gao’s new Ink on Canvas paintings in Asia, this monograph also features Gao’s older, and recent ink on paper artworks. Well-known for his literature works and as the 2000 Nobel Laureate of Literature, Gao Xingjian is also a proficient painter whose works articulate an inner mindscape where words are not able to express.  ‘Painting begins where language fails’, one of Gao’s quotes which was frequently quoted by art critics, characterizes his art like visual poetry that explains his philosophy. Gao frequently works with Chinese ink, exploring the expressive potential of Chinese inks through the years, informing and inspiring new directions for this traditional medium.

The monograph includes an esteemed essay written by Professor Mabel Lee, Adjunct Professor of Asian Studies at The University of Sydney, and translator of Gao’s Nobel winning novel, Soul Mountain.
